[61] Knute Rockne, who was a famous football coach at Notre Dame revealed that our "Child City" Mooseheart, was important to him during his coaching career. He was a "Life Member" of the Loyal Order of Moose and visited Mooseheart in 1929. (Watch the film "Knute Rockne, All-American", because he mentions Mooseheart twice.)

[62] Mooseheart allowed children to swim in the Mooseheart Lake until the late 1920's.

[63] In the mid 1950's, the lake was dredged to make the island. The lake was dredged again in the mid 1980's. A ditch was dug, 1 acre square and 18 feet deep and the sludge was pumped into this fenced in area just south and west of the cabin. This was funded by the Women of the Moose.

[64] The House of God Tower is called "The Tower of Tolerance".

[65] Roosevelt Memorial Auditorium was used for Mooseheart church services from 1919 until 1950. This building was also used as living space for boys and girls (different floors) from 1919-1920. In 1920 the girls moved to Alaska Hall (Girl's California). The boys still lived in the building until some time in the 1920's.

[66] The cottage nearest the lake (Maple Cottage) was built in 1915. William Fielden, our first farm manager, lived there until 1919. After he moved out, the boys who needed special diets for diabetes and other diseases occupied the cottage. In 1920 it became one of the reception cottages.

[67] Illinois Memorial Stadium was dedicated in 1940. The stadium is 251 long, 60 feet wide and 45 feet high and can seat approximately 3,310.

[68] The Mooseheart stone walls, 185 feet in length, which highlight the entrance to Mooseheart, were dedicated July 3, 1930. They were designed by the Lorado Studios Stone Works. On the wall, to the right of the Pylon, are engraved the words "Enter to Learn, Leave to Serve".

[69] In 1918, 9,000 Illinois farmers had their first glimpse of Henry Ford's new tractor at the state demonstration held at Mooseheart.

[70] Ben Oswalt was Athletic Director, football and track coach at Mooseheart. He coached track from 1917-1925 and his teams only lost one duel meet. The football teams scored 1,910 points verses the opponents 101 points. Oswalt's athletic teams gained national recognition. University coaches, among them Knute Rockne, the Notre Dame mentor, paid Oswalt fine compliments.

[71] The Mooseheart Governors voted to call our Athletic Field, for all time to come, the "Ben Oswalt Athletic Field", October 10, 1926.
